A great location for walking into Fremantle with all its life, markets, fun and food. The outdoor Pizza oven was a hit on Christmas Eve as we all moved into the baking business. The Kookaburra in the trees at the edge of the garden was hit. Highly recommended.

From Governor's Cottage, to the jewel in the crown.....
Construction of the original building began in 1859, and was completed by 1864, serving as the summer residence of WA Governor's until 1912. Planning for Governor's Cottage to become accommodation facilities began in 1913, and opened in 1917. At this time the Rottnest Island Board of Control was created, and the island was opened to tourism.
In 1953 the building was converted into the Rottnest Hotel. Until 2000 the hotel was operated privately, with a succession of licensees. The hotel lease returned to the Rottnest Island Authority in 2000 and was officially renamed the 'Quokka Arms' by Minister for Tourism, Mr Bob Kucera on October 2, 2004.
In November 2007 Garrett Hospitality was granted the lease to operate the Quokka Arms. In May 2008 we began the first stage of the historic hotel's transformation. The original central building is being restored, the main bar and kitchen has been completely rebuilt & the courtyard landscaped with a new island bar added.
The bars weren't the only areas to be completely refurbished. Our hotel rooms have been given a makeover from headboard to shower, and everywhere in between. This is the way to treat yourself when staying on Rottnest Island.
Hotel Rottnest's 18 rooms have a fresh new feel, and modern decor. Located at the south end of the venue the rooms are just a stones through from the majestic Thompson Bay. The property boasts 4 bayside rooms with their own private courtyard only metres from the ocean. The remainder of the rooms are courtside rooms which open onto a secluded courtyard that is reserved exclusively for hotel guests. Located in Fremantle, 76 Wray Avenue is one of a group of 6 workers cottages built on or around 1890.
The construction is stone and the original house comprised 2 bedrooms and a kitchen/ living room with a toilet extension.
Since then the house has undergone several extensions but has still retained its original style and charm. It now comprises the original 2 bedrooms with the kitchen converted to a living room with the addition now of a kitchen / dining room and separate bathroom / toilet.
The original front verandah is retained but the garden at the rear has been modified to locate a garden table setting with an additional stone outbuilding housing the laundry. In addition to the house a single off street parking bay provides space for 1 car.
Wray Avenue itself is part of the Fremantle heritage precinct and is located centrally with easy walking to the town centre and main cafe strip as well as the fishing boat harbour, Fremantle Sailing Club and swimming beaches. It is close to the main Fremantle hospital and also the free CAT bus service that serves the town. In addition a regular bus service passes the house.
Wray Avenue itself features several well-known Italian shops including an excellent delicatessen, butcher shop and pharmacy as well as 2 cafe restaurants.

The villa is at the rear of our property. It is in a quiet street,a short walk to the free CAT bus , three minutes walk to the park, and five minutes walk from the beach and several cafes and restaurants. It is an easy walk to the grocery store and post office as well. There is a fully fenced swimming pool and an alfresco area. Off-street parking is also available.
The location is perfect whether you want to explore the Fremantle area or just relax and laze around the pool. No car is required for sampling the restaurants in the local area and plenty of ground can be covered using public transport.
This villa is not suitable for toddlers as there are stairs and a pond.
Please note that the owners have pets.
