Anything’s possible in the city this winter as the artistic and creative offerings from Western Australia’s leading arts organisations are unveiled in the 2008 City of Perth Winter Arts Festival.
The annual festival celebrates the finest performances, exhibitions and events on offer in Perth by honouring the masterpieces, saluting seasoned classics, exploring the unorthodox and embracing new talent.

Harvey Horse Trails |

The Harvey Horse Trails is heading up to be a great event this year.
Experience the brilliance of horse riding set in the heartland of Harvey on these fun filled two days. On display will be prized horses and their riders competing for some great prizes.
Food will be available throughout the day and entry to the event is free.
The South West Horse Trials Committee have focused on making this annual event a success, so come along to the horse trails for a great day out.

MacNuts WA is proud to present The Nut House Concerts, a series of five
unforgettable candlelit evening concerts featuring some of Australia's most
respected classical and jazz performers.
The opening concert on July 26th features Sara Macliver one of Australia's most versatile and popular artists sing songs from Bach and Handel to Gershwin and Cole Porter.
The candlelit concerts are set in the intimate rammed earth auditorium at MacNuts
Macadamia farm in Baldivis. The audience is welcome to stay after the concert and meet with the musicians. Light snacks, wine, coffee and tea will be on sale at each concert.
Time: Concerts run from 7.30pm ~ 9.00pm, with a 20min interval
Cost: Tickets are $35.00 per concert and we have a limit of 100 tickets per concert.

Mundaring Truffel Festival |

The Mundaring Truffle Festival celebrates the truffle, one of the most desirable and expensive of edible commodities, and brings together some of Australia’s finest chefs including Shannon Bennett and Alain Fabregues.
Western Australia leads the way in Australian truffle production and here’s your chance to find out what all the fuss is about.
Activities include truffle master classes, gourmet produce market, food and wine tastings, truffle dog demonstrations, fungi walks and installations. Plenty of art workshops and food activities for children.
There will be opportunities to taste fresh truffle along with talks and exhibitions for those interested in learning about not just the truffle itself, but how to make use of its unique culinary qualities.

Multiplex Avon Descent |

The Multiplex Avon Descent presents a serious challenge and is a prized trophy to those who have been victorious. Participants challenge the Avon and Swan Rivers in a variety of paddle and power craft in an exciting two-day time trial over 133 gruelling kilometres. The Avon Descent offers competitors conditions ranging from long stretches of flat water that can test the endurance of the fittest athlete through to rapids, sure to test the skills of all who attempt to navigate their unknown contours.
The Avon Descent passes through some of Western Australia’s most picturesque country, including the farming regions of historic Northam and Toodyay, forested national parks, steep gorges, the Swan Valley vineyard region and eventually the tidal waters of the upper Swan River.

9th Sydney International Piano Competition of Australia Winner's Recital |

Enjoy an evening of superb music presented by one of the worlds most exciting and gifted pianists performing repertoire from the great masters. The winner of the 2008 Sydney International competition will be announced at the Sydney Opera House on Saturday the 2nd August and audiences have the unique opportunity to hear the latest sensation in the music world, only days later at the Perth Concert Hall.
The 2008 Sydney International Piano Competitions one of the world’s most prestigious competitions for up and coming young pianists aged between 17 and 30 years old. First presented in 1977 and held every four years, the competition now attracts more applicants than any other piano competition.

Nannup Flower and Garden Festival |

The Nannup Flower and Garden Festival is a celebration of the joy of gardening and highlights the ‘Garden Village’ theme that Nannup promotes.
The festival is centred in the historic Town Hall with colourful displays by local flower and bulb producers and community groups. This is complemented by street planter boxes and flower beds bursting with brilliant tulips.
Surrounding the Town Hall will be stalls selling garden products, local produce and food and beverage outlets. There is also the opportunity to visit open gardens to see tulips and lavender in the field and the Holberry House Sculpture Walk.

Shinju Matsuri Festival |

Shinju Matsuri Festival of the Pearl rekindles the excitement and romance of Broome’s early days as a world renowned producer of Pearls and Pearl shell. Japanese, Chinese, Malay, Koepangers, Pilipino and Europeans flocked to Broome from the late 1800’s to be a part of this prosperity. This unique multicultural melting pot of pearl industry workers, including local Aborigines, contributed to the spirit and energy that is still present in the exotic town of Broome today.
One of the most anticipated moments of the Shinju Matsuri Festival is the waking of Sammy the Dragon and the man behind the resurrection of Sammy each year, Mr Greg Quicke, will be acknowledged for his valuable contribution as the 2008 Shinju Matsuri Patron.

Mullewa Wildflower Show |

The Mullewa Wildflower Show was first held in 1987 when the wildflower group wanted to bring the “bush to the people”. It has since gone from strength to strength.
The town hall is transformed into a bush scene showcasing the entire native flowering shrubs, flowers and trees found in the area including some great specimens of the most famous in the area the Wreath flower Lechenaultia Macrantha. Then along one side are specimens on display in small containers labelled and sorted into their respective flower family and identified by the resident botanist.
Morning and afternoon tea is also provided by the local Anglican ladies in the adjoining lesser hall at an additional cost.

Dowerin GWN Field Days |

Western Australia’s largest machinery expo, with over 600 exhibitors, this multi-award winning event is in the Western Australian Tourism Hall of Fame and now in its 44th year.
The two day event is the largest on-stop machinery shop in the West, showcasing everything from hammers, cars, motorbikes, harvesters, tractors, haul-packs and road trains, plus a large indoor lifestyle arena, featuring everything from wines, candles, food, art to massages and tarot readings. With exhibits of new machinery and a large family interest display, with strong emphasis on information seminars and relevant farming issues.
It is important for visitors to understand that it is primarily a machinery event and therefore there are no live stock exhibits, or stock shows.
